Shoujo-ai Resource, so next time evil yaoi is taking over is brought up.....

Go through the list and check off the titles you have watched. For our purposes, "watching" a title means that for TV and OVA series, you have to have seen at least one episode all the way through. For one-shots, you have to have seen the whole thing. At the end of each genre category, add up your sub-total. At the very end, add up the sub-totals to come up with your grand total. If your grand total is 80 or over, congratulations-- you are an obsessive anime watcher!

As an extra note: not all the titles listed here are great, and some are even steaming piles of crap. Titles on the list are here because they are either 1) genuinely good, 2) insanely popular, 3) good examples of the genre, or 4) just plain notorious. Good anime obsessives should be able to watch series with any of those qualities.

Oh noes! I missed out on being an obsessive anime watcher by two anime series. My life is not complete. *cries pitifully* :p

Thoughts:

I'm a bit puzzled by how some of this worked out. *shrugs* Some of the series I think are miscatagorised, but then I didn't write the meme.
Under shoujo/shounen ai - I've seen no shounen ai? Bwha?
Historical.... Wait.... Samurai 7 is historical? With the whole samura vs gundams theme?
I can sort of understand how Steel Angel is historical with the clothing style - kinda - but really it should go under ecchi I think.
Now the real question is how many series have I "watched" in reality.

What was surprising about the meme, is in the shoujo/shounen ai section - I hadn't seen any of the shounen series, but three of the shoujo ones, which wasn't something I was expecting at all. - er not that I watch a great deal of ai anything period, romance isn't really my fave genre to watch, but considering how many people bitch that shounen ai is so big in the anime fandom, and shoujo ai isn't - I was surprised that this never stood out to me before.

And its not just that all the shonen was delegated to subtext or secondary. Because the same is in the anime examples I've watched. CCS has shonen ai in the background (Lee->Yukito, Yukito/Touya), but it also has a very real and implied shoujo - Tomoyo's love for Sakura. Which is kind of the same as the most obvious Shonen example I can think of in the above in DNangel, with Satoshi appearing to have a one sided love with Daisuke.

And burst angel, is blantantly Shoujo with Meg and Jo. Hell Marco (who is a girl btw) went after Meg in a groping kind of way cause of Jo (also a girl if not obvious). That (Meg/Jo) was much more obvious than most of the so called "canon" yaoi pairings in other anime series.

And while their are some shows that only have male characters, there are also shows that only have female ones (Azumanga Daioh).

Admittedly what I watch is skewed, and I probably just got lucky or something.

Just it struck me as odd, because everyone goes about how rare it is in *actual* anime... And this is sort of the prequel to the next bit.

Qem: You've seen cromartie right?
Mike: some of it
Qem: I've only seen a few episodes... were their /ever/ any female characters introduced?
Mike: i dont think so
Qem: *is confused: stumbled across a shoujo ai section for cromartie*
Qem: *can't get the page to work*
Qem: *but brain is twisted.*
Mike: maybe its a joke
Qem: ...I don't think so...
Qem: Cause I was surfing other bits of the site, when it *kicks* was actually working
Qem: And the Inuyasha shoujo section definetly isn't a joke.
Mike: hehe
Qem: The whole website is just down at the moment...
Qem: *bookmarks and plans to read in the future*
Qem: *if only solely for people who groan that there is no yuri in their fandom because their are no female characters/ the female characters are boring.*
Qem: This is by the way what I was referring to on the phone ages and ages ago.
Mike: ahh

For the record the number of episodes I saw, while sufficient to say that there are definetly things that are only covered in the manga - which I have not read - did make it seem, really unlikely that any female characters would really ever be introduced. Its set in a boys school of deliquents... I mean if watching six episodes randomly and the only female referenced is the main characters mother - who you didn't see.... well yeah.

I hope the website comes back up - I'd *love* to be able to use this for when people throw the excuse, female characters are all boring, their are no female characters, as reasons why there is no yuri in their fandom.

//end snarky!Qem. Who was surprised in answering a random meme, in the above section. Yes she wrote the middle bit first.

It appears though that I broke the website. o.o; It was loading fine earlier, but now it is all down with variations of Bad Gateway: The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server. Odd. Maybe they went over their monthly limit - the forum seemed active.

If it worked, I'd probably be posting this on the two yuri comms I'm part of...

I haven't yet had a good look around this website, I found it when looking for gunslinger girls fanfiction, and thats the section I've been focusing on so far.

But since we're all shoujo-ai/yuri fans here, I figured people would appreciate a link to the resource

http://www.shoujoai.com/ which is a website dedicated to shoujo-ai and yuri.

It describes itself as:
We aim to provide a centralized resource pooling the best shoujo-ai content including fanfiction, images, anime/manga reviews, etc. Currently we are building our database of fanfiction; improvements to the links section are planned and we have put up a forum for shoujo-ai fans to chat with each other. An image gallery is also forthcoming

It even has an Inuyasha section, mostly Kagome/Sango.
http://www.shoujoai.com/fanfics/inuyasha/

The forum appears to be active for the website.

I haven't really found anything for the Inuyasha section that makes me go *ooh I want to rec that* yet, but it does cover a number of fandoms, and since shoujo-ai can be hard to find, didn't think it hurt to share the resource.

ETA: If I don't respond to comments, I'm really sorry, LJ has been sending me comments/replies made to posts/comments I made, off and on. Its really irritating especially when I find the comments myself. Yes I know there is that most recent comments feature - but that doesn't cover stuff outside of my journal which is where its really bothering me.

ETA2: Looking in the cromartie section today, it only has one fic in that section, and its a crossover (bubblegum crisis) and the pairing characters are from bubblegum crisis. Which is sad but. There is yuri in a fandom that has no female characters. Doesn't that count for something?

Shoujo-ai doesn't turn my crank, but that's quite a bit of research you've done. If you find any good ones to rec, I know some people who'd be interested.

Fanfiction to rec? Or anime series to rec?

I can do both, just not necessarily from that site. ^.~

*shrugs* Shoujo only has a limited appeal for myself, which may be why when analysing what I watch, it surprised me so much.

- Its just its often either fanservice or waffty fuzzy sort of thing when taken to fanfiction, and often like that in the series when canon anyway. The same can be said for yaoi, heck and het, just sometimes it can be hard looking around that.

I do have the urge to write bakuretsu tenshi (burst angel) shoujou-ai/yuri drabbles though now...
